Baylor Health Care System and MedBasics Announce Affliation

DALLAS (March 6, 2007) – Baylor Health Care System and MedBasics have announced the execution of a formal collaboration agreement, which began on Feb. 15, 2007. MedBasics operates convenient care clinics that provide walk-in medical services inside major retail outlets for routine medical conditions and preventive care.

This agreement will maximize the delivery of accessible health care in North Texas while allowing both organizations to maintain their independence and control. Specifically, the agreement provides for Baylor to identify a corporate medical director and supervising physicians for new MedBasics locations. The first MedBasics clinic with Baylor identified physician oversight will open in the summer of 2007.

"We look forward to collaborating with MedBasics based on the company's pioneering work in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This organization has introduced affordable and accessible health care in a retail setting, which benefits all North Texans," said Joel Allison, President and CEO, Baylor Health Care System.

At MedBasics clinics a Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will now operate with oversight from a physician, evaluating and treating patients for a variety of minor illnesses, such as allergies, bladder infections, bronchitis, ear and sinus infections, fever, and strep throat for a charge of $49. School physical exams, immunizations and flu shots also are offered and no insurance coverage is required.

"Cooperating with a quality-focused, patient-centered organization like Baylor allows us to further increase our patient comfort level with the care offered at each MedBasics location. Whether we are serving patients who cannot get an appointment with their family doctor, who want to avoid the emergency room, or who have no other source of health care, we know the Baylor name will resonate," said Brian Jones, Chairman and CEO, MedBasics.

"This agreement formalizes several months of informal cooperation while MedBasics introduced their first two clinics in Dallas. HealthTexas realizes the importance of access to care for patients, and will work with all of our Baylor Health Care System leaders to develop this relationship," said Carl Couch, M.D., Chairman, HealthTexas Provider Network, Baylor's physician group.

MedBasics operates two convenient care clinics in Dallas, and plans to open 500 nationwide by 2010.
